COERR Mae Sarieng Support Publishing of Karen’ Traditional Living and Wisdom for Preservation

COERR has been supporting Karen displaced persons in 7 temporary shelters in Mae La Oon, Mae Lama Luang, Mae La, Umpiem, Nupo, Ban Don Yang and Ban Tham Hin shelters, especially the elderly groups to carry out cultural activities to preserve their tradition and wisdom from older generations to the younger generations.

COERR valued their treasure and therefore, in December 2019, published the Karen leaflets of which contents are about the way of living in the past of the Karen of Pakakayaw who were usually farmers. The leaflet consisted of introduction to Karen farmers’ tools and equipment: traps to prevent animals from attacking their farm produces, equipment for hunting animals for food, long range hunting weapons, trapping pits for bigger animals, canal fishing equipment and traditional community fishing by blocking waterflow for catching big fish, etc.
